Still Images For Digi Pak

These photos are ones we took when trying to find our Digi Pak image, we took around 20 and here are some of the shots we really like-

We used bright bold colours again to emphasize the make-up and hair, as this reflects our genre Dance-Pop. We also decided to take our possible Digi-Pak pictures in the same location as some of our shots from our video, keeping a link between the Digi-Pak and the music video. We thought this would be good as it would allow the audience to see clearly that the video links with the CD-Digi pak, which is what we wanted to achieve.

Rough Ideas for Magazine Advert

From gathering images of the internet I have put together some rough ideas of what we would want our Magazine Advert to look like. As we had agreed that we would want the image of Alice to take up most of the advert so we would need now consider elements such as the effects we would add to the Magazine Advert. We also wanted include effects such as glitter and bright lights to keep with the conventions of a Dance-Pop magazine advert, this is something we would be able to include when editing our image on Photo Shop. We also considered the use of mise en sene throughout the magazine advert as we wanted to keep a link to our Digi Pak and our music video.
Images such as these gave us insipration for what we would want our magazine advert too look like.

Alices analysed magazine advert

When researching for a magazine advert of the genre Dance pop, I came across Britney Spears. By analysing and understanding what is included in her magazine advert, it will help my group when creating our own magazine advert of the same genre. The things I will be focusing on are colours, themes, title, information shown, picture, featuring songs, artist image, date of album release and record company.
Firstly you can see clearly on this magazine advert the artists name and the album name. This straight away indicates to people what and who they are reading about. The artists name, ‘Britney Spears’ is at the top of the advert in a large, clear font in red writing. This grabs the readers attention. The album name is also printed in a large font of the same colour just underneith. These words are in a different colour to the rest of the writing to make them stand out more and grab attention of people. This is a good idea to include in our magazine advert because it will make peoples’eyes focus on our advert. The date of album release is also printed in the same way. It is in a bold font in the same red colour, this is good because it indicates clearly what date her album will actually be released. Because it stands out, it will stick in peoples’ heads meaning they will specifically remember the date when to go out and buy it.
The artist’s image is portrayed in quite a sexy, feminine and cool way. This attracts many eyes of both genders. Men will notice it as she is showing a lot of flesh which is a thing they like so they’ll read on. It attracts womens’ eyes as she looks like the typical perfect woman which many woman envy, so they’ll be attracted to the advert and read on. We will consider this when deciding on how to portray our artist’s image.
The featuring songs are shown on this advert on the left hand side in blue writing. They aren’t shown as big as the artists name but still stand out. It is good that the featuring songs are shown because it gives people an idea of what they will be buying. We could include this on our magazine advert too, to show our audience what they’re going to be buying.
By reading this magazine advert, I can see the form of release is selling the CD in stores. We could include saying this on our magazine advert but it is obvious to the readers that the CD will be released in stores so this may be unnecessary to include, and take up space in our advert.
The main image on this magazine advert is a long shot of the artist herself, Britney spears. She is placed on the right hand side of the advert leaning against a white wall. There is nothing different, qwerky or funky about this image as you would usually expect for the genre Dance-pop. She is portrayed as being sexy, relaxed, happy, cool and a good role model for women/girls. Showing her in this way attracts the attention of many women, girls and men. We will think about this when creating our magazine advert, of how to portray our artists in a way to attract many eyes. She is placed on the right hand side of the advert with no writing or other photo’s covering her up which is good because that clearly shows who this whole advert is about. We will use this photograph as inspiration when creating our magazine advert. We could also put our photo of our artist on the right hand side with nothing covering it up; to also clearly show whose music we are advertising. We will make ours funkier though to relate more to the genre of Dance-pop, by colours, the pose and the plain background.
The record company logo is shown in this advert in the bottom left hand corner. We will think about this when creating our advert because it shows off and advertises the company that is involved in producing the album itself.
The colour scheme for this advert is very subtle colours which isn’t what you would normally see in a Dance-pop advertisment. When creating our magazine advert, we will include bright colours which fit the conventions of many dance pop adverts.

Alice Digi Pak analysis- Christina Aguilera

When creating our digi pak, it is important to look at other digi pak’s within the same genre, Dance-pop, as we can therefore get inspiration and an idea as to what dance-pop digi paks include. When looking for a digi pak to analyse, I came across Christina Aguilera’s greatest hits album. When going into depth of her album, I will consider things such as colour schemes, logos shown, image/photographs, how the artist is represented and so on.

Firstly you can see the name of the artist ‘Christina Aguilera’ is printed in large writing straight across the bottom of the front cover. This clearly stands out to me as it is a clear font, a big size and doesn’t have anything around it making it too busy and blend in. This clearly shows people whose album it is. When creating our digi pak, I will also make our artists name as clear as this with a clear font and large size so it stands out to people and they know what album they are buying. The album name ‘greatest hits’ is printed just below the artists name. It has the same colouring as her name to keep the theme constant and not too busy and confusing for the readers. Using these colours of black and white is a good idea as it contrasts to the rest of the cover which is mainly pink. This further makes it clearer to the audience. When creating our digi pak, we will present the album name also beneath the artists name as it is clear to see, read and know what album they are buying.

On the right hand side of this album cover, there is a yellow box with a track listing inside. This is a good thing to include of the front of the digi pak as it shows what songs of hers are included. This is good as it clearly tells the market exactly what they’re buying for- they wouldn’t want to buy the wrong album! When creating our digi pak, we will consider putting a track listing on the front also.

There are 2 logo’s included on this front cover. One of them is the logo of ‘Star mark compilations’ who are a popular music company. The other logo I do not know but it looks as if it’s a company who have sponsored the album. Putting these logo’s on the front cover advertises them. We could include logos on our digi pak too, to advertise them.

The main focus of this digi pak front cover is a photograph of the artist herself. It is a head shot of her looking almost side-on to the camera. She is wearing lots of pink makeup with her hair curled nicely. Her doll-like makeup, hair and facial expression presents her in a beautiful, sexy and interesting way. It would attract many eyes of women who will see her as a role model, and also men who will like the photograph. We will consider having a headshot as our digi pak front cover as by analysing this, I can see It will attract a wide market. It looks like a fun album cover which is a convention of the dance-pop genre. The main colour scheme of this is pink. Pink is a good link with dance-pop as it reminds us of partying, getting ready, girly things and fun. Therefore we will consider having a fair amount of pink in our digi pak. Whereas if the main colour scheme was for example brown, it would not look very dance-pop! The background is also pink but a deeper shade with hints of white.

Here is the inside of Christina Aguilera’s digi pak. It contains 2 cd’s which fold out rather than the standard one cd which is different to other digi pak’s making this album qwerky which is a theme of Dance-pop.
Firstly on the left hand side on the first fold out, there is another picture of the artist. She is still with a pink background and wearing all the doll-like pink makeup which relates to the front sticking to the colour scheme. Sticking to the colour scheme throughout the digi pak is a good idea because it makes the whole digi pak still refer to the genre Dance-pop.

Covering this photograph is a 4 paragraphed biography about Christina Aguilera. This is a good thing to include within a digi pak because it allows you to get to know interesting information about who’s album they have bought. We will consider doing this when creating our digi pak.

In the bottom right hand corner, the ‘Star Mark Compilations’ logo is once again shown. This further advertises them. We will also show a logo more than once throughout our digi pak as it is clear to see that other albums of the dance pop genre do this.

Along the bottom there are 5 small pictures of all the other albums this artist has produced. This advertises the other work she has done. We could include other albums within our digi pak too. I can see each of her other albums also don’t have too much going on in them. They are mostly simple. This isn’t much like dance-pop as dance pop is qwerky, fun and exciting. So when creating out digi pak we will make them a bit more fun, more like dance pop.

On the 2 fold outs, the cd’s are in the style of a vinyl. They once again follows the colour scheme of pink. On the cd’s, the ‘Star mark compilations’ is one again printed to further carry on the theme. Behind the cd’s, although you cannot see it completely, there is a picture of the artists. Of what I can see, it looks like she is lying down with her feet up. I can imagine them to look provocative. This fits in with the dance-pop genre.

Each of the factors I’ve discussed throughout this digi pak fit well within the dance pop genre of being bright, girly and fun. When creating our digi pak, we will also have bright, fun colours.

Eye Make-Up Mood Board

Here I have created a mood board on eye make up to help us decide what we would want our character to look like. A number of these contain feather eyelashes, Alice, Abi and I all agreed that we definatly use these when taking the picture for our Digi Pak and Magazine Advert. The use of colourful eye shadows is very common in all of these pictures and this is also something we will be creating on our character.

Digi Pack Ideas - Inspiration - Abi Shaw

Before creating our digi-pak i collected ideas from looking at other CD album covers within the dance pop genre to get a feel for the different types of styles and layouts, this would give us inspiration as to what our digi-pak could look like, what we could maybe include, what doesn't suit our music video and what we could change or develop into making our digi pak unique and original, but similar to the genre it's in as this is definitely what we want to achieve. By looking at other digi pak covers in the same genre i can see a contrast of bright colours, not only in the background but on the artist as well and the use of glitter in nearly all of them particularly in one of Kesha's her self and JLO's album cover. This is a good technique used to attract the audience mainly teenage females as glitter and appearance is something you would associate with girls. This is something we also want to enhance in our digi-pak, not only is it something that is already similar to the genre, but something that continues a display of through out our music video and one of our initial ideas. This would also link very well with the genre and be very useful in attracting the target audience. Close up shots of the artists face is shown and very common with albums as it shows the artist straight away allowing the target audience to see exactly who's album it is. The make-up like teenagers again in the modern day is very bold and the use of  bright lipstick is a main feature, as well as

the bold eye-make-up and hair. Again this something we want to emphasize on our own as appearance is definitely a major part of teenager girls lives and the boldness attracts the buyer with the use of bright colour to the artists face. The title of the artist and the featured song is also something displayed on the album cover on the fromt, and these are also displayed using bold font and in capital letters, were the writing is positioned varies but you can see it straight away and is easy to read. This is something that we will also need to consider, as the titles are important as it tells the audience what the CD is, allowing the buyers to notice the different songs one artist might have. Here are a few digi-pak covers that i looked at which i compared and as you can see they all share similarities, but are all very unique in there own way expressing the artist in different colours and themes. These covers were part of what inspired me and helped when deciding on how our digi pak would look.

Digipak ideas spider diagram

Here Abi and I have put together a spider diagram of ideas of what we can include and use for our digipak. We have considered locations, props, costume, hair and makeup, colours, layout and so on. This will help when creating our digipak as we can refer back to it for ideas. It makes the whole process of actually creating our digipak alot quicker.

My Magzine Ad Analysis in relation to Dance pop - Madonna and Rihanna - By Abi Shaw

As a group we are going to design and produce a magazine advertisement for the release of our digi pack, in order to do this I need to research the conventions of current magazine adverts within the chosen genre – dance pop, this will then help me to design and produce a magazine advert to successfully reach my target audience which will include the name of the artist and the album, the date of the album release, an image of the artist either a photo and or an artwork design, featuring songs, the record company and possibly follow a set colour or theme. The magazine advert could be very basic, but also might include a website for the artist and some form of release for example CD download, critical quotes, and ratings might also be a possibility. Whilst recognizing the different conventions used to create a high quality, successful magazine ad, I looked at a few magazines within the dance pop genre allowing me to get an idea of the sort of theme and styles used including the colours, the font and mis en scene.
I have chosen this magazine advert as it is in the dance pop genre. It will enable me to get ideas and inspiration when designing my own magazine ad. This advert is advertising Madonna’s new album ‘Hard Candy’ which was released in 2008. Madonna is portrayed as a very powerful, aggressive, woman as suggested in the title ‘HARD CANDY’. This is also stressed by the leather outfit and the boxer/wrestler belt around the stomach. She also dominates the entire advert with her legs open signifying that she has control over her sexual image. The pink background gives a feminine girly feel in complete contrast to the main black power image on Madonna. The power image is emphasized by the words at the top and bottom left of the advert. ‘On and on the beat goes’ suggests that the music is unstoppable, and this is reinforced by ‘no one’s gonna stop her now’. The words are also displayed in bold, capital letters, and the title of the album is between her legs which immediately attract the attention of the audience which could include males and females. Madonna’s name notice is not included on the magazine advert only a capital ‘M’ which suggests her status in the industry and the fact that she is so well known that her full name is not necessary.
In contrast to this power image her makeup is very subdued, and her skin is very pale, which provides a background for her heavily made up eyes, and open red mouth. Her hair is very simple and natural despite the bleaching and the dark roots, which could be related to the ‘CANDY’ in the title, and suggests innocence and the pretty and simple side of her.
Another element to consider when designing our magazine ad is the jewelry. Here Madonna is shown wearing a cross, and a large ring. These seem to offer contradictory messages. As the cross represents belief and religious commitment, while the large ring which is difficult to see,  relates to the overall image of power and aggression.
The conventions shown in this particular magazine advert, specifically the bold titles, and the use of costume and makeup to represent the artists character and personality could be something that we use in our own magazine advert as it is a creative way of attracting the audience’s attention. The idea of having a contrasting sexual but innocent image is very effective as it could possibly increase the target market who would buy the album. The other factor from this magazine advert is the use of bold contrasting colours again attracting the attention of the target market. The date shown of when the album is released is something that would also be of importance and to be considered for our own magazine, as it lets the target market know exactly when the album is released. As Madonna is the main feature on the magazine advert. When producing and designing our own magazine, the artist being displayed in the center of the magazine ad is something to be considered. One thing that stood out to me the most was the position of the main information being the title of the new album and when it’s released, in this advert it is positioned between Madonnas legs which immediately catches your eyes. This is a common, technique in advertising and this is something to take into account when producing our magazine advert. Another element that I think plays an important part in attracting the audience is the fact that in this magazine advert Madonna is looking straight into the camera, which it appears that she is staring straight into you’re eyes which immediately  makes you look at it. This would be a good technique to use in making our magazine advert stand out and grasp the viewer’s interest.

Another magazine advert that caught my eye within the dance pop genre was a magazine ad by the famous artist Rihanna for her new album that came out on the 21st of November. The close up of the magazine advert is cleverly presented showing only part of Rihanna’s face, her eyes and lips dominate the image with the strong colours making a big impact. Her facial expression is disturbing with menacing eyes staring straight at you. Her hair also covers part of her left eye, which suggests that she’s not telling you everything. She is shown with her tongue in the corner of her mouth trapped between her lips. This is sexual, suggestive image, almost asking you to come to her and ‘TALK THE TALK’, which is the album name. The magazine advert also asks the rhetorical question ‘CAN YOU’ TALK THAT TALK’ which is an effective way of attracting your attention. The Album name is shown in very large bold type of white with a red outline, which occupies almost half of the advert. You can slightly see the military camouflaged outfit she is wearing which suggests her power and fearlessness, which you can see in her eyes. These powerful messages are a way of really connecting the audience with Rihanna and convincing you to buy the album.
Other techniques that I found from this magazine advert is the fact that it is an extreme close up of the artist that fills the space completely, leaving nothing surrounding it to divert your attention. Everything is focused entirely on her face and mouth – showing expression and really brings the audience in to her thoughts. The bold makeup not only follows the dance pop genre, but it attracts a wider target audience as its used to create a sexual image, which would attract male attention as well as females, as red represents passion and emotion. Another item that we could take into account in our advert is the size and prominence of the title of the album. This hits you immediately and ensures that you do not overlook the title of the album. The way the title is in included in a rhetorical question also catches your attention.

Digi Pak Inital Sketches

Here is our first idea sketch for our Digi-Pak, it follows with the conventions of most Digi-Paks we have studied as the front cover is a close up of the artist. As a group we have decided to use sections of the three pages to make our Digi-Pak.

Our next sketch followed an idea that we had seen on a Digi- Pak by Rihanna, when advertiseing her album Greatest Hits.
Here is the final sketch that we came up with, although these are all in black and white, we will use viberant colours.

Katy Perry- Digi Pak

I have analysed the digi pack of Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' I chose this artist because she is a dance pop artist and this matches our genre. I already researched into Katy Perry whilst researching into the Genre dance pop, and just like her the digi pack for Katy Perry is very creative, fun, and cleverly made. Katy Perry is represented as a fun, young celebrity who is known to be an idol for young girls; her digi pack is made very much to stand out, and reflects the artist through the different elements of mis en scene and the chosen theme, primarily, colours the use of props, the camera andles and the choise of costume and makeup.

Her digi pack consists of 2 CDs, which are purposely designed to show the theme of candy. This theme is carried out throughout the digi pack in many clever ways. One way this is done is through how the CD’s are designed. One of them to look like a donut, and the other one has effectively used the colours red and white in a pattern, which represents candy canes. The CDs are designed using very bright colours pink and blue used for the donut, and red and white to create the candy cane look; this not only attracts the consumer, but also refers to the niche audience that Katy Perry directs her style and music towards. Pink and blue are also used on the back and the front of the digi pack, in the background to create the clouds and sky look, I think this is also used to connect with the target audience and relate with genre of music, especially pink is related with girls and the sky blue colour could suggest happiness, I think the use of colour had been used to reflect the music which is happy and quite peaceful, whereas  for instance if the cover was black and green or brown dull colours, you would assume that the music wasn’t peaceful. The colours used are also very girly, and the digi pack candy theme is defiantly targeted at teenage females. The use of the target audience has been influenced very much, not only by the colours but the chosen digi pack name ‘Teenage Dream’- this immediately grasps Katy Perry’s target audience and relates to one of Katy Perry’s music tracks which is also called teenage dream and featured in the digi pack. The digi pack candy theme is portrayed to also fit in with another one of Katy Perry’s well known music tracks – ‘California girls’ which is also featured in the digi pack and purposely used in relation music video for that particular track, which is candy themed and again uses bright bold girly colours, and sweets and candy canes feature throughout the music video. Another aspect of the digi pack that is interlinked with the artist and the genre is the use of text; which is very bubbly, again uses pink and blue, and stands out.

The CD’s have been designed and intirpritated in a very creative way, but the way Katy Perry is shown on the digi pack is also done effectively. You can see from the pictures that Katy Perry is displayed on both sides of the digi pack, the back, the front, and also inside the digi pack, she has been displayed in different ways each following the candy theme but also adding a twist. On the inside of the digi pack Katy Perry is presented with a crown on, this makes  her seem very important, but the as the crown is made of sweets, it adds a twist, and contradicts the importance so much, I think this is done to show Katy Perry’s personality through the use of the props. I think it shows that she is a creative person, and is serious about her music but has a kind of silly not so serious approach, this is very clever and I think it would also give the target audience a sense of humour, and add to an individual’s personality. This technique has been used again in a similar way on the front cover and with the way the track list is displayed. Some of the letters have been replaced with sweets, to continue to display the candy theme, and add to the creative appearance of the digipack.

Katy Perry is also shown holding onto huge cakes that are prettily iced, this represents Katy and suggests that she a very sweet, pretty, innocent person, and again makes the digi pack very feminine and effective. It sort of suggests the guilty pleasure, which also possibly reflects Katy Perry’s personality. In general the idea of having pretty looking cakes, making a person attracted to them, but then the idea of the cakes being very fatty and high in sugar reflects temptation. Which I think is done also to tempt the target audience to buy the CD this is very cleverly made and is a great way to attract the audience. The way Katy Perry is portrayed is also cleverly done by not only the props used, but also the costume. Katy Perry is shown wearing a dress, again this is very girly, and would relate to the target audience-teenager girls although on the front cover she is publicized naked, this also contradicts the seriousness, and completely disagrees with the innocent side of Katy Perry. It is a bit misleading and the fact that she is shown naked, lying on a cloud, suggests that she isn’t so innocent, and interlinks with the candy theme of the idea that she is a bit sugary; it could also actually attract males as it is slightly provocative, Katy Perry being displayed in this way could symbolize her as a sex icon, and the use of the colour red could not only tie in with the theme, but also represent seductiveness and passion. The makeup used is very bold and the use of red has been enhanced again by the red lipstick, again this is very much related with a ‘sexy’ look and creates that sugary side to Katy Perry, Like wise with other dance pop artists for example Kesha, the makeup used is very bold, and that is something I think is quite important to consider when designing our own digi pack.
By looking at the digi pack another important aspect is the way the artist has been displayed in relation to the different camera angles, the camera angles are pretty much very central on the artist, and she is shown in either close up’s mid shots, and wide shots, showing expression, emotion and the main important icon on the digi pack. This is also something to be aware of and take into consideration when designing our own digi pack.

P!nk - DigiPak

Before creating our own digipak we looked into various artists of the dance pop genre and analysed there own album/single’s digipak’s, these inspired us in many ways and brought across new idea’s that we are able to use. I went ahead and analysed P!nk’s album ‘Funhouse’, I choose this album mainly due to the fact that she, as an artist, fits in very well with our chosen genre and is an extremely well know, popular musician.
Starting with the colour scheme, P!nk ‘s digipak uses mainly  a vintage yellow and pink which links in with the retro style of funfairs and the pink diagonal banner ironically links to her name. P!nk’s name is subtly repeated all over the background of the album, incorporated as a kind of wallpaper for the digipak, as well as this, across the pink banner we again see the artists name and the album name. However, although the font is a lot smaller, they stand out a lot more, the font is white which immediately brings attention to it as it stands out among the other detail on the album itself. Looking at the images presented on the album, the main feature is P!nk on a wooden horse, signifying the carousels that would be found at a funfair, linking into her album name. P!nk herself has not taken a natural pose on the wooden horse, it can be seen as quite flirty and fun, which I see as the main message that she is trying to get across to her audience. She has brought an energetic and fun feeling to the album, having such an abnormal and different picture on the album cover will draw in the target audience even more so than if the album was bland and boring. P!nk is also wearing a large diamond ring on her finger, signifying success and wealth. She has been styled in what appears to be a retro ‘funfair’ girl outfit, very short, open and fun, again linking in with her album title. Also, bringing in the retro, vintage style of funfairs is the subtle patterns in the corners, the black swirls and shapes come across as minor detail but having quite a large effect on the albums imagery. The back of the album uses similar colours, but the image of P!nk herself is a lot more serious and elegant, contrasting to the image on the front cover. Finally, looking at the detail on the CD itself, we again see the ‘fun factor’, the background is again a vintage yellow, in the background it is clear that there is a funfair in the distance, P!nk herself stands out a lot, wearing a bright pink dress, surrounded by brightly coloured balloons, also the wooden horse has been carried through onto this image.
When we talk about her track list, it is clear that her track list is presented very well on the back cover, unlike most artists, P!nk has chosen to use a wide variety of texts, almost a different text for each track. Each font is very bold and unique, but the colour of the font does not change, the font remains black throughout all the song titles. Other information that is included on the back of the Album is the name of the producer, any featuring artists, sponsored brands such as Virgin and Sony and the Copyright conditions of the album. As seen on almost all albums we also have the bar code in the top left corner, the price is not incorporated into the actual album artwork, but we can see the albums date of release. The overall style of the digipak allows an audience to recognise its genre, and immediately sends off a fun, enthusiastic vibe as a result of the colours and images used within the artwork. This is all essential when selling the product at the look and style of the digipak is a great way of advertisement.

Digi Pak- Britney Spears

As well as considering what to include in a Magazine Advert I also looked into a Digi Pak from my specific Dance-Pop genre. I found a very detailed one from the famous artist Britney Spears

This is a Digi Pak used for an album of Britney Spears called Femme Fatale. This Digi Pak mainly consists of simple shots.

When first looking at this digi pak there is a lot going on, most of which straight away captures my attention, in one shot we are shown that she is looking out of the window she is stood next too. This creates a good effect as the titles of each track featured on this CD is on top of the window, its shown as if she is staring straight at the music. This encourages people to turn their heads and see what she is looking at, later to find the songs.

The colour theme is mainly yellows, browns and black, these colours do not represent the bright and bold we would usually see within the Dance-Pop genre although other digi paks of hers will relate more to the wild genre. Britney’s name is not easily readable on the front cover, but it does not need to be, she is a worldwide pop music icon and known by many young girls so her face would be easily recognizable. Although Britney had a rough stage in her life she has come back into the music industry with albums such as this one and taken back her well loved audience.

The main picture on this Digi Pak which is the front cover, relates to the male gaze. It is a sexy and provocative picture which will help attract other areas of her target audience such as young single men. She is staring straight into the camera almost teasing males who see this. Although it is a still image Britney’s use of flirtation comes across very strong.

Britney’s initials are written on the right hand side of the Digi Pak, with the albums initials on the left, these are also written in gold fancy writing; this effect on the font gives the album a sophisticated look as it is followed on throughout this digi pak.

Gold has become a commonly used colour in today’s modern society. This gold theme is followed throughout the Digi Pak, like before on the inside of the Digi pak, Britney’s name and the albums name is also written gold on the front cover. The use of black writing when adding the names of the songs make them stand out against the bright back ground, in doing this they are immediately noticeable to the audience.

The picture of Britney in the centre of the Digi Pak also attracts the male generation; she is deliberately leaning towards the camera touching her leg to taunt men, attracting them to her and the album. The use of colours throughout this shot is keeping with the Digi Paks theme of neutral colours, Britney is wearing a plain short black dress whilst sitting on a gold chair. The use of lighting in this shot helps to reflect the gold of the chair onto areas of her body.

Although it would not of been planned, her hair also suits this Digi Pak due to the bright blonde blending in with the golden backgrounds.

Keeping a constant theme throughout a Digi Pak will help when attracting new fans, as your Digi Pak does not look messy and unfinished. This is something we would want to take into consideration when creating our Digi Pak as we would not want to lose marks for it looking incomplete.

Magazine Advert Rihanna

When researching for my magazine advert I found that many adverts created by artists of the same genre were very similar. I choose to focus on one by a well know artist Rihanna. Understanding what is included in her magazine advert will help me when my group is creating our own.

This magazine advert is of Rihanna advertising the release of her album Take a Bow, which later became a hit single.
The picture of Rihanna in this dominates the rest of the advert, we are straight away drawn to her subtle make-up and her depressed facial expressions. As we have a basic idea of what we would want our magazine advert to look like we thought that having a close up of our artist could work, although we would want to use more bold and creative techniques. Using a bold title will show the emphasis to fans, it will allow them to also remember the title as it will stay in their minds.
We are also shown in capitals one of the worlds leading musical companies EMI this advert is also gaining promotion for them, like her name this is in white to stand out against the purple background.
The colours used in this such as the pinks and purples represent the links between love and also links in with the un-sure and weary Rihanna. Our song also relates to this as she is singing about a boy never having a chance with her.
The picture we are shown is Rihanna lowering her head this links in with the lyrics of the song ‘Take a bow’, they explain to the audience that her boyfriend has been caught cheating. It is showing her feelings about how ashamed she is from what he has done; the photo also links in with this as she is bowing her head.

Here I have found another magazine advert by Rihanna, this one in particular relates strongly to our bold and wild music video.

Like her other magazine advert, the picture of Rihanna straight away grabs our attention, her name is again written in capital letters allowing it to stand out. Two songs that will be featured within this album are written in bold red writing, this is something we have considered doing for our magazine advert to allow our song title to stand out.
The use of accessories such as her rings and bracelet relate to her genre and the songs that are within the CD. The titles of both are self explanitory, and were two hit number 1 singles for Rihanna.
Another unique aspect within this avertisement is the use of the letter R in the top right hand corner, this has been shaped to make her initals. She has kept a constant black and white theme throughout this magazine advert, including her eye make up. They have used a strong amount of eye-liner to add to the fear and no-inncocent look that she is trying to portray.

Although this is not advertising an album I found this picture of Nicki Minaj a famous music artist and thought that the use of colours and glitter would fit in very well with our genre. The bold make-up and tall/ unique hair style stand out very well within this shot. It could be a similar shot that we decide on using as you can see most of the characters body and clothing. This picture shows a different use of effects, the fading in of one colour of glitter to the next is something that as a group we could consider using. I feel it fits in well with our dance- pop genre.

Final Music Video

Tuesday 15 November 2011

Editing Evaluation

During the editing process we found numerous challenging aspects of the programme 'Final Cut', as we had not used this programme last year it began to be a trial and error process whilst learning what options within the programme done what.

Once figuring out the basic forms of editing we then looked into including different aspects into our video, this include the use of a number of tranisitions. We began to place different effects throughout our video, this allowed us to see what elements we thought looked good in the video and ones we did not like.

When learning how professional and specialized 'Final Cut' was it allowed us to speed up and reverse shots throughout our music video. Once we had placed all the transistions in our video we then went on too look at different colourful techniques that we could include.

We changed the colours of our split screens to help add effects but we did not change any other colours throughout the video as we had many scenes that were meant to be dark, such as our party scenes.

In using 'Final Cut' we were able to increase the level of editing compared to that of last year when we used a different programme.

Final Shot List

This is a table of a variety of shots that we used within our music video including the type of shot, a picture from our music video showing the shot, a description of what the shot includes, and reason for why we used the shots, and what it achieves.
Type of shot used
Description
What the shot achieves and Reason for shot choice.
Close-Up –

A close up of the frog spinning its head, with frog sound to introduce the video.
The camera focuses only on the green frog and not much else is seen shown in the background. We chose this shot as a random opening shot to already establish the humour side our video has out throughout the sequence. Other Close up shots we used throughout the video on one specific scene were our character wakes up to the doorbell we used this shot to show emotion and expression on the characters face, and this also tells the audience the characters thoughts.
Mid Shot -
A mid shot of the main character ‘Alice’ in the play zone.
The shot focuses on Alice in detail, whilst still introducing the location. We chose this shot to introduce the main character and it also straight away gives the audience a first impression of the character showing what she’s wearing and what she is doing.
Quick Cuts -

Quick fast cuts of the party in between the play zone shots.
These fast cuts show another location of the sequence in quick cuts. We chose these fast cuts to very quickly introduce to the audience briefly another scene of location to get the video going.
Long Shot -

A long shot of Alice walking down the back alley of a house.
The long shot takes up the full frame and focuses on the character showing her from head to foot, it also introduces the location. We chose this shot to follow our series of quick shots, as it sets the scene and ties in with the song, and where the lip-sink comes in.
Two Shot -

A two shot of Alice and the geek character – Sophie.
This shot is a shot of two people, which is similar to a mid shot and focuses on Alice and the geek character together. We used this shot as it is a good way to introduce the geek, by having them in the same shot shows the connection between the two characters, and it also works well with that part of the lyrics to the song.
Extreme Close-Up -

An extreme close up of Alice’s eyes.
The extreme close up focuses right in on the eyes showing extreme detail. We chose this shot to fit with the lyrics and visuals, ‘I can see eyes in my window’, and this shot also shows the audience Alice’s expression and thoughts.
Mid shot -

A mid shot of Alice in the tunnels singing to the chorus.
The mid shot focuses on Alice from head to waist, and also shows another location in a tunnel with lights. We use a numerous of mid shots throughout the video, but chose this one for the chorus again to tie in with the lip-sink but also lyrics and visuals, Alice is using actions to fit the lyrics with her hands so a mid shot was appropriate.
Wide Shot and Tracking shot -

A wide shot of Alice walking away with the effect of the lighting from the next scene appearing.
The wide shot focuses on Alice walking away due to the chorus finishing, it shows Alice from head to foot and as she walks away the camera follows ;tracking is a common camera movement used to move closer to the action. We used this shot and tracking to allow the chorus to finish, and show Alice walking away using different techniques. The next scene also fades in before the end of the scene; this was creative and also kept this shot continuous. We used wide shots again more than once throughout the video.
Medium Close-Up -

A medium close-up of Alice when she is in a trolley going down an isle in a shop.
The medium close up is a shot between a mid shot and a close-up. It focuses on the character from head to chest, and commonly used in moving shots. We clarified this as a shot that appears in the scene of Alice in a trolley moving towards the camera, before the next scene a medium close up is shown of Alice, and in this particular shot it shows emotion and movement.
A Cut Away -

A cut away of a close-up of a mini colourfull shoe.
The camera cuts to a random object that is something other than the subject. We used this shot a few times, especially with fast cuts, to add not only effect, but to add a variety of other things so that the video does not become boring to the audience. This shot of the shoe works well as a cut away as it is colourfull and completely contrasts with the other scenes of the video that contain lip-sinking.
Eye Level Shot -

An eye level shot showing Alice sitting on the bed.

The camera is at eye level, this is the most common view, being the real- world angle that we are used to. We used this shot as it shows the audience the subject how we would expect to see it in real life. It is a fairly natural shot, and works well with the lyrics of the song as lip-sinking is used here.
A Reverese Shot -

A shot of Alice jumping into the balls at the play zone and the same shot reversed.

The camera focuses on Alice jumping into the ball pool we used this shot twice and the reverse shot is mainly through editing. We used this shot as it is very creative in using a shot more than once but in a different way The reverse shot shows Alice jumping into the ball pool, and then reverses out of the ball pool. This is a good effective way to show the audience a movement in a interesting more creative way.
Birds eye view shot -

A bird’s eye view shot of Alice at the bottom of the slide in the play zone.

The camera is directly above the subject creating a different un natural point of view focusing on Alice at the bottom of the slide throwing the balls up. We used this shot as it creates a dramatic effect because of the angle the camera is at and it’s a good shot in showing the position and motion of the character, which allows the audience to see things the character can’t.
Dutch Angle -

A Dutch angle shot of Alice at the party.
The camera is purposely tilted to the side focusing on the subject from an angle. We used this shot as it creates an interesting effect, and ties in with the whole idea of her being drunk.
Over The Shoulder Shot -

An Over the shoulder shot of Alice Writing ‘N N N Neva BABY’
This over the shoulder shot focuses on Alice writing part of the lyrics on the mirror which is a good use of camera angles. This over the shoulder shot is also very effective as you can see the reflection of Alice in the mirror. We used this shot to show the good use of camera angles in making a shot seem more effective and more interesting to watch. It also gives the impression that someone else is looking from their point of view, which could imply the message is towards the geek. We used an over the shoulder shot more than once both focusing on Alice from the geek’s point of view.
Pick Up Shots -

A Pick up shot on the slippers showing her putting the slippers on then walking.
The pick up shots focus closely on only the prop being the slippers, and they are shots were no characters are present. We used these shots as they imply a certain action that follows the importance of the props.
High Angle Shot -

Split screen -

A high angle shot showing Alice walking down the stairs.

A split screen showing the same shot of alice 4 times.

This shot shows Alice walking down the stairs with the camera angled down towards her. We used this shot as it has the effect of making the character appear less powerful, were Alice is walking to the door not sure who it is this shot is effective in showing this uncertainty to the audience.

This shot shows 1 shot of alice dancing 4 times each gradualy coming in in time with the music, and then each gradualy fading out. We used this shot as it was creative and also one of the main conventions of dance pop videos. We also enhanced the use of colour in this shot which is also a common convention of dance pop videos.
