Magazine Advert Rihanna

When researching for my magazine advert I found that many adverts created by artists of the same genre were very similar. I choose to focus on one by a well know artist Rihanna. Understanding what is included in her magazine advert will help me when my group is creating our own.

This magazine advert is of Rihanna advertising the release of her album Take a Bow, which later became a hit single.

The picture of Rihanna in this dominates the rest of the advert, we are straight away drawn to her subtle make-up and her depressed facial expressions. As we have a basic idea of what we would want our magazine advert to look like we thought that having a close up of our artist could work, although we would want to use more bold and creative techniques. Using a bold title will show the emphasis to fans, it will allow them to also remember the title as it will stay in their minds.

We are also shown in capitals one of the worlds leading musical companies EMI this advert is also gaining promotion for them, like her name this is in white to stand out against the purple background.

The colours used in this such as the pinks and purples represent the links between love and also links in with the un-sure and weary Rihanna. Our song also relates to this as she is singing about a boy never having a chance with her.

The picture we are shown is Rihanna lowering her head this links in with the lyrics of the song ‘Take a bow’, they explain to the audience that her boyfriend has been caught cheating. It is showing her feelings about how ashamed she is from what he has done; the photo also links in with this as she is bowing her head.

Here I have found another magazine advert by Rihanna, this one in particular relates strongly to our bold and wild music video.

Like her other magazine advert, the picture of Rihanna straight away grabs our attention, her name is again written in capital letters allowing it to stand out. Two songs that will be featured within this album are written in bold red writing, this is something we have considered doing for our magazine advert to allow our song title to stand out.

The use of accessories such as her rings and bracelet relate to her genre and the songs that are within the CD. The titles of both are self explanitory, and were two hit number 1 singles for Rihanna.

Another unique aspect within this avertisement is the use of the letter R in the top right hand corner, this has been shaped to make her initals. She has kept a constant black and white theme throughout this magazine advert, including her eye make up. They have used a strong amount of eye-liner to add to the fear and no-inncocent look that she is trying to portray.

Although this is not advertising an album I found this picture of Nicki Minaj a famous music artist and thought that the use of colours and glitter would fit in very well with our genre. The bold make-up and tall/ unique hair style stand out very well within this shot. It could be a similar shot that we decide on using as you can see most of the characters body and clothing. This picture shows a different use of effects, the fading in of one colour of glitter to the next is something that as a group we could consider using. I feel it fits in well with our dance- pop genre.
